Overlapping with several Scratch32 classes this Targa Florio event focused on models that participated in the Targa Florio of 1970 – plus or minus a few years. Models from earlier or later years were permitted but builders were asked to use very conservative discretion when canvassing potential models 3 or 4 years removed. To help encourage this the following guidelines were implemented:

  • For builders with a single entry that entry must have participated within 1 year of the target year of 1970 (so 1969 through 1971).
  • For builders with 2 entries at least one entry must have participated in 1970.
  • For builders with 3 or more entries one must have participated in 1970 and at least one other within 1 year of the target year of 1970 (so 1969 through 1971).
  • In no case may an entry exceed the target year by more than the number of models that builder enters (so if you wish to enter a 1966 model you must enter at minimum 4 participant models which MUST meet the criteria in 3).
  • Models which participated in any past Targa event are automatically eligible in any future event – but they cannot be used to qualify ‘new’ models unless they also meet the eligibility requirements above.

Models that finished, started, practiced or were at minimum registered to race for the Targa Florio were permitted. Duplicate entries and/or liveries were permitted.

Models in any ‘class’ that raced in those years are eligible. Combining years surrounding 1970 there are at least 14 classes of eligible entries: five ‘P’, five ‘S’ and four ‘GT’ with motor restrictions for several classes.

Four builders presented 18 models in this the 12th running of the Targa at Nova Ridge Motorsports Park.

The Race

Dusty conditions on an unfamiliar course would mean a hesitant start for most, but the pace picked up quickly…

…and as time ran out and every model took the checkered flag a huge sigh of relief overcame organizers – there were no casualties this year… at least not from collisions…

Before the dust settled the race director confirmed the official Targa Florio XII results.

  1. Art,
Thank you very kindly for resurrecting the Targa race. It was nice to dust off some of these cars.

  2. Thanks for organizing the Targa. Hopefully by the next one the building at Colesano will be more complete!
