Perhaps if we pool ALL of our $$$$$, we could share this for 'runabouts'...LOL   https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1965-brabham-bt14?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=SF_CC_Global_Daily_v6_17/October/2023&utm_term=&utm_id=425205&sfmc_id=36918294   Wonder if there's a reasonable facsimile of the Transporter in 32'nd scale??   Enjoy!!

    • Baldwin Motion Vega I was recently talking to a friend about this car. It's nothing like its little sister with the 4-cyl failure with the aluminum block. If a Motion Camaro, Vega, or Corvette came up to your sports car at a red light. You quickly made a right turn to avoid being embarrassed. You can just barely detect the 454 badge on the side of the fender. A sleeper it wasn't. You could hear one coming for you half a mile away.

    • The Young Racers 1963 movie Stumbled on this movie tonight. Kind of a precursor to Grand Prix. Pretty cheezey, melodramatic story but it features colour footage of the 61 or 62 F1 season. A lot of it is sped up unfortunately but still worth checking out. Monaco, Spa, Rouen, Reims and Aintree are featured. Lots of pit lane and paddock shots. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NKTmrpVtz6M&pp=ygUQVGhlIHlvdW5nIHJhY2Vycw%3D%3D

    • 1965 Corvair Corsa The Corvair got a bad rap from Ralph Nader. Real Corvair owners all say that they did not experience whatever Ralph Nader was talking about. Some people say he was referring to the "hammer" effect of having a rear engine car. Exactly like a Porsche. Which no American car had before it. A Chevrolet dealership by the name of "Yenko" made a bunch of special Corvair Corsa's. They were very fast. They went by the name "Yenko Stingers". Aurora made a very nice static model of the 1965 Corvair Corsa with the flat-6. But there is only one, single, solitary kit on Ebay, and it's been there for the last year. And he just recently went from $150 USD, to $125 USD.  Still far too much money. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Aurora-Corvair-Corsa-1-32-Scale-Plastic-Model-Kit-666-130/254550866928?hash=item3b4469fbf0:g:89YAAOSw~wRecNYr Then out of the blue I happened to locate one. The box looks new and sparkles. The kit inside is new and perfect. This 1965 Chevrolet Corvair Corsa is far more rare than a Rover BRM. Before I run off and build this ultra rare kit for SCCA. Does this car spark any interest to make a copy? Just asking before the point of no return...

    • 1955 Belgian Grand Prix and 1966 Belgian Grand Prix Reminiscent of days gone bye See attached short 30 minute film of the 1955 Belgian Grand Prix where Fangio and Stirling Moss finish first and second for the Mercedes team.  A brilliant film highlighting 1950's front motor GP cars and the old SPA track.  The fans are all wearing their Sunday best.  Terrific! https://youtu.be/7exBtOgys7I   A 4 minute clip of the Belgian Grand Prix eleven years later.  The race begins 1.5 minutes in-featured first is a fabulous pre-race onboard lap with sound.  AMAZING cinematography and shots from ground level in the thick of the race that was filmed by Phill Hill's camera car and also from the air in a helicopter which zooms into a side pan of the #6 car racing through the straights at top speed.  The sound cuts out after the first 1.5 minutes but the cinematography is incredible, this is a must see.   Due to a flash rainstorm, there was a major crash in the opening laps of this race which included Jo Bonnier in his #20 Cooper at the Burnenville corner.  Jackie Stewart driving the #15 BRM crashed on the first lap at the Masta Kink and landed in a ditch where he was stuck upside down in his car for about 25 minutes. https://youtu.be/RCgmdy0jD4I Enjoy!

Nice interview with Nino Vaccarella. A few club members might recognize their liveries. • Rio Grand Prix (Gavea) 1934 – 1937 In the 1930's the Grande Prêmio da Cidade de Rio de Janeiro were held on the infamous 11.16km long Gavea track known locally as Trampolin do Diablo ("The devil's spring board"). This course followed the coast on the edge of a cliff and returned to Gavea up in the mountains where it featured a series of hairpins in hazardous terrain... a wonderful historic course! And the vehicles that raced there ranged from lowly Ford V8's to Alfa's, Ferrari's, Bugatti's and yes - even an Autounion! Click on the attached .pdf below to review this article - it features interesting facts with numerous pictures about an obscure Grand Prix course and the pilots and their cars that navigated it... Enjoy! :yahoo:

    • Interesting 60’s automotive culture video Hello all, I hope this message finds you and family healthy and safe!! This 50 minute 60's video is pretty cool, narrated by Lloyd Bridges(above water), and though is shown as "Ken Miles Cobra testing", that segment is limited, though at about the 6:30 mark, he is seen testing something with his son, that is near and dear to our hearts. :>) It's more a reflection of Automotive culture, from Kart racing, Road racing, Drags, Land speed pursuit etc, and some cameo appearances; 'Fabian', Ed Roth, Chuck Barris...I found it a nice distraction to 24/7 ALL COvid, all the time... Hope you enjoy, stay well! https://youtu.be/7vUmHEeuIKM

The home-page is below. Not sure why it doesn't list the name. http://type550.com/ It has serial numbers with the various changes the cars went through such as colour changes, bumper changes, previous owner names, etc... It also lists the races each car entered, and where it placed.

    • F1 Masters series at Tremblant July 12th-14th I went to this a few years back and it was pretty good. They had less turnout than usual that year because of other competing events but maybe this year will be better. http://www.mastershistoricracing.com/historic-formula-1-usa/championship/ Not sure if I can go yet but it does coincidentally coincide with the start of my holiday week so who knows? Too bad there is no camping at the track though. Waking up to the sounds of race engines is like nothing else. It is also a great historic track that maintains most of it's original features.

    • Lotus 30 – Why It Failed – Article "Sometimes there are good grounds for saying "it'll never work". To paraphrase the famous Richie Ginther quip, the Lotus 30 was a 40 with 10 fewer mistakes. But still too many to make it anything better than occasionally successful, even in the hands of Jim Clark.  Ever the loyal Lotus professional, Clark did what he could with the car but, like everyone else who drove the 30, he disliked it, and it sometimes got away even from him. Designed to compete in 'big-banger' racing against Lola and McLaren, the 30 sold quite well in 1964 — 21 were built — but quickly earned a reputation for evil handling. An improved Series 2 version was prepared for 1965, but only 12 of them were made. Although the 30's modified 4.7-litre 350bhp Ford Fairlane V8 was inferior to the Chevy opposition, that was the least of its problems. One person who foresaw the car's failure was Lotus's own Len Terry, but his concerns were largely ignored. "Colin Chapman gave me the scheme and asked for my comments," recalls Terry. "I studied it for two days and by the end I'd produced a critique covering two foolscap pages. Of all that I considered wrong with the car, the only thing he agreed to change was boxing in the rear chassis members. That was it. He was not prepared to change anything else. That's when I told him somebody else would have to draw the car because I didn't want my name attached to it." To read the article view the attached .pdf which can be found below these images.

    • Vintage A great initial get together for the 1934 Correa Ford V8 Special from the Rio GP and Sir Tim's 1930 4 1/2L Blower Bentley from LeMans!!!  Both ran remarkably well while still maintaining their correct 'tall' appearance. Maybe even more remarkable was that despite a big dis-similarity in weight, size, motor and gearing, both cars made similar enough lap times that racing will actually be feasible and fun and they looked spectacular together on the track!! World's apart as 1:1 racers, but they didn't appear inappropriate together today. This is going to be fun!! :yahoo:

    • Mosport Can Am 1973 A friend's pics Gentlemen As I may have told some of you a close friend very graciously gave me his father's pictures (who passed away) from Mosport Can Am race weekend in 1973. Ron Northcott (the photographer) was quite skilled and managed to capture Jody Sheckter's infamous spin which lost him the race from the lead at the start of lap 30. Mark Donohue who led the early running also had car issues and dropped back to finish mid pack. In one of the photos Donohue's car shows signs of damage to the front end which might indicate an incident involving another car or the barrier perhaps? I have never seen footage or pictures on the web. of the Sheckter incident so this could very well be the first time it has been documented in pics online Well I finally got round to scanning them and thought I would share. Porsche 914 Parade lap...lucky kid in the front car could it be our friend and fellow racer Johnny B? Lap1 Turn 1 Donohue #6 leads from Sheckter #0, Follmer #16, Kemp #23 (race winner) , John Cordts #9 and Haywood in the #59 Brumos Lap 2? or later... Same order but a little more settled in Further back in the field...Bob Nagel Lola, Scooter Patrick #8 and Shadow DN2 of Jackie Oliver, Agor #13 and Durst in the #3 Vasek Polak sister car to Sheckter's

    • Chevron B21 vrs B19 Having scooped the Chevron B21 in the post race auction of the  IROC Race of Champions, the challenge raised was to describe the differences between a B21 and B19. The B19 car had closed cockpit over the passenger seat and roll hoops where not full width.  The B21 had to be open cockpit over the passenger seat, full cockpit width and full windscreen due to new rules which stated in 1972 the cars had to be 2 seaters. In 72, a change in tire type occurred.  Slicks came along and some cars ran the treaded tire  and some tried slicks which had a different side wall height.   As such, this could result in a modification for B21s rear wishbone lengths / camber castor ride height. The differences between B19 and B21 chassis is that the B19 has a narrower central member between the "seats" about 3" wide. The B21 was made wider (due to new rules) about 5". The side pods on the B21 are narrower than the B19 to accomodate the wider centre section without increasing the overall width. Happy New Year.  :yahoo: Dave

"The best compromise seemed to match the pipe lengths, which meant pointing them skywards, and adding megaphone ends to assist extraction. Thus the slinky 578 gained its famous stackpipes: its most famous feature is a drag-making lash-up."

    • Ferrari 121LM Scaglietti Spyder Ferrari 121 LM Scaglietti Spyder Gallery: [foogallery id="3612"]Completed in early 1955, chassis 0546LM was originally conceived as a 118 LM. In this guise, it was raced as a works entry at the 1955 Mille Miglia by Paolo Marzotto. Unfortunately, a blown tyre ended the charge early. The car was returned to the factory where it was upgraded to full 121 LM specifications ahead of the entry in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Finished in French racing colours, it was raced by Maurice Trintignant and Harry Schell. Among the fastest cars in the entry, the big six-cylinder engined Ferrari also proved fragile and 0546LM was forced to retire from the race after ten hours with a blown engine.
