Started by: Ken 4 3 3 months ago f1nutz The long search for a DB5 I bought a static Airfix DB5 kit a while back in hopes to make a slot car. I brought it home and found the body warped and unbuildable. I brought it back for exchange. I waited two weeks for another kit. I opened it up at the store and it too was unbuildable. I got my money back. I saw another Airfix DB5 kit at another hobby store several weeks later. I paid for it and opened the box in the store. Another warped body. That's three warped/unbuildable kits in a row. I have been eyeing this Scalex 2019 revival livery for quite a while. Everything in life is time sensitive, so I gave in. I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do with it yet. But it looks better on my shelf than in the store. Plastic chassis slow sports car maybe? It is a postal vehicle breakdown lorry made by Oxford die cast as are its cargo. Thinking about my Revell Lang Cooper, Gar Vic, and Dynamic Chassis slot cars buried in a dump somewhere makes me ask "WHAT WAS I THINKING?" https://www.motortrend.com/features/los-angeles-slot-car-museum-profile Started by: GI 7 6 2 years ago f1nutz Sadler Mk 5 MIA mentioned the Sadler in the image with Ludwig Heimrath. As mentioned, an interesting Canadian built car and Race Spirit Models has cast it but it ain't cheap! https://racespiritmodels.com/en/slot-cars-kits/1-kit-sadler-mk-5.html Started by: GI 3 2 3 years ago MiA What kits are you buying, building, working on during isolation? I'm always looking for different and odd kits to build for the future. Here are some recent finds... Luis helped me pick this up from around the Hamilton area. Thank you Luis! The Triumph Herald is an odd looking duck. This Spitfire kit came from one of the members of Group-25. These just arrived from HobbyLink Japan. I finally got a Carrera Panamericana Beetle! What is everyone up to? What are you building or buying for future, possible builds? Post any build at all. Nothing is too strange. Cool scenery is interesting too. I may not build every kit. But it's fun poking through the boxes and deciding. :-) Started by: Ken 5 24 3 years ago Ken What type of Aston Martin is this? I saw a kit like this on EBay and it made me curious if there was a real Aston that looked like the one on the box? Or could the drawing be a little off? Here's the short story of Lindberg models. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVahHjxZ2mM Ken Started by: Ken 2 2 4 years ago Ken Late 70’s Early 80’s Scirocco’s Does anyone know of any 1:32 Scirocco slot cars or model kits? My first car was a 1977 Scirocco and I always wanted to have one to race. My original didn't last too long..... fortunately I did. Started by: JohnnySlots 3 2 4 years ago f1nutz Can you I.D. This kit? I found this at a show a few years ago. It looks like a Monogram static kit from the 60's based on the bottom chassis piece but the interior has Strombecker body mounting posts. Interestingly for a static kit, it also has aluminum Revell like rims and rubber tires on threaded metal axles. Not quite a Lola T70. ie different windshield and body details. Intake was missing so I added a D'Art Hobbies aftermarket intake. It may make it to the track at some point in the future. Started by: f1nutz 3 4 4 years ago Arthur 1963 Rover BRM (1969 Aurora dual purpose kit) I met a guy at the Torcan model show. He said he had a rare 1/32 dual purpose kit that came with parts to be static, or a slot car. He said it was a Rover BRM. I never heard of it, but I like my BRM 578. So my interested was peaked. The real car has a turbine engine! Nuts! The kit is at least 50-years old. Aurora Plastics was sold in 1969. Then again in 1971. The company was parted out in 1977. This is what came in the box. Besides missing the instructions, it's also missing one headlight from what I can tell. The chome roll bar, inserts, steering wheel, and tail light bezels all sparkle nicely. Some kits are so far from the real car that they are an insult to the manufacturer. This model may actually look a bit more sleek compared to the real car. I'm not complaining about this one in the least. It looks cool to me. Started by: Ken 4 11 4 years ago f1nutz Interesting finds at the Slot Car show yesterday I'm looking at car kits in a different way now that I'm considering converting these into slot-cars. I will try and avoid the really narrow or heavy ones from now on. Not sure wich one of these will eventually make the grade and move up to the build table. You can't make everything. Can you? 1965 Barracuda - lightweight resin body = 14g. Track width: Rear = 52mm. Front = 50mm. 1968 GTO - body weight 21g. Track width: R = 56mm. F = 55mm 1961 E-type Jaguar - body weight = 9g. Track width: R = 46mm. F = 47mm 1963 Studebaker Avanti - body weight = 12g. Track width: R = 49mm. F = 48mm. What do the Beatles have to do with slot racing, anyway? Well, I was surprised to come across this photo (and others), while searching a completely different topic. It seems that not only Elvis, but the Beatles were also addicted to slot racing. According to his biographer, John's attic was entirely devoted to his model racing track. A Scalextric set accompanied the Beatles on their 1964 British tour and was always set up backstage. They also set it up in some of their hotels during other tours. Looks like there are more addicts out there than we knew about! Started by: Arthur 4 4 6 years ago Ken Viewing 14 topics - 1 through 14 (of 14 total) You must be logged in to create new topics.
