The 'Z' Ring (Stage 1 - Planning)
The concrete floor was covered with two coats of flat/primer acrylic paint close in colour to most slot car track surfaces. No additional floor prep was needed since the floor was already in great shape and any existing cracks are tiny and even.
Luckily I still had leftover paint for the walls so touch ups were done - couldn't match the dirty areas so just painted over many of those.
Baseboards were not added yet...

1970's Grand Prix

Grand Prix entries from 6 teams (and one fantasy team) covering 1971 through 1978 were rolled into The Ring pitlane. Niki Lauda, Jackie Stewart, Jochen Mass, Nelson Piquet, James Hunt, Carlos Pace, Graham Hill and Francois Cevert (and one fantasy pilot) milled about nervously. Six world champions (with a combined 10 past, present and future championships between them) made this the most experienced grid yet.

Classic LeMans

Next up classic Fly and SRC LeMans endurance prototypes from Porsche, Ferrari and Lola took to the circuit. This feature saw Porsche pass Ferrari on the last lap to seal victory.

Lovely 1950's era race cars graced The Ring, including ready to run Ninco classics as well as scratch built models. Odds were in their favour as Jaguar beat out Porsche and Ferrari to take the checkered flag.

Builders gathered from around the GTA to showcase their open wheel models at Ringwood. Indy Roadsters debuted in this series to accompany the usual assortment of Grand Prix models from 1950 through to 1980. Indy roadsters did feature first in our American Thunder series a few months earlier but this time they would run along with other open wheelers for the first time at Ringwood.
