    • Spa Lyons Feb 10 2024 A Speedy 6 descended on Spa, 1st event in a long time, and Brian J's inaugural pilgrimage to the Holy land of Milton.. :>) An interesting escalation of decades and speeds were the selected program for the day. Though Valentines Day was days away, no Love lost on the circuit! 1st up was Hot Rods, Brillcream, Beachboys, and the acrid smell of Burnouts filled the air... Fred's Tudor was tu fast for the rest of the fleet, though the Greektown Garage 49 was a Souvlaki away from taking the top spot, followed by the Rat Finked 32 for the podium. The Chicken flew the coop, and had it not been Super Bowl weekend, "1.45 Billion Chicken Wings consumed", it may have been in flight! Next on the dance card was 60's Sportscars, no rolled up shirtsleeves with Marlboros for these pilots at the wheel of these 'Fine Foreign Fenders', their girlfriends riding Vespa's side saddle, pondering if "Henri" will be there for Diner, as per Sir Jackie, "a time when Sex was safe, and Motor racing dangerous(I love that!) :>) A scant 1.4 seconds separated the podium, with Sir Jackie, errr Sir Kenneth of Scarborough(sounds quite regal) taking the top spot, and the kiss of course!   Now up a decade, Classic Lemans but 'hot motored'... But 1st a sidebar..."Karate Kris", whilst Marshalling, displayed his finely honed "Oi-zuki" (lunge punch), perhaps he and Gary have the same Sensei... :>) But all fine, nowhere near the carnage of 55 Lemans, or for that matter, Jimbo's Surgical slicing...but I digress... Sir Surtees prevailed, with some very fine fine duels, and the bespoke 917 showed some promise(now back to the Skunkwerks!)  Fast forward 30+ years, and now the Pilots of yesteryear are hopefully watching, wondering what THEY could have done with such technological marvels! Modern LMP, have at it! Hmmm, looks like I have to add pics later...stay tuned

    • Spa Session December 9 2023 It had been quite a while since the formidable Spa circuit hosted and event, and the crowd of Belgian Bottomed Belgian Beauty's fueled with Belgian Brew waited in excited anticipation. What was to be a joust amongst the Fearless Five turned out to be the 'Fab Four', as alas, our Fearless leader could not attend. :>( Mia, Bill, Chris in his inaugural/debut and the host.. The crowd was treated to some good ol' Suthren fun in the 1st event, Nastycab, lots of rubbin', but no tuggin'. :>) The Sharpie and it's pilot certainly were, and clearly, the Rainbow Warrior has spent far too much time of late in the commentary box, as his skill was far from Sharp! Next up, a slightly more refined group of gentlemen drivers made their way from the paddock to start, for a Classic Battle, the Porschekrieg of Classic LM. The Ferrari teams were not present, as they had enjoyed too much Grappa, Cannelloni, and local female enticement the prior evening... A brief interlude whilst fans nourished and replenished fluids, and then to the frenetic pace of GRP C, which saw a battle of teams representing former allied nations of WWII, Porsche, Lancia and Toyota. :>) The Canon was rocket like, and the 2 Toyo's finished a scant 1.25 seconds apart for 2nd/ 3rd The closing event was another Grupen fest, this time, FUNF! The MOMO should have been a little SLO-MO, as jumping the line(dare I say premature) proved to be costly, as the Fruit of the loom was smooth as silk and prevailed by a lengthy extension. :>) A fun day indeed, though 1 marred by the fatalities of many spectators during numerous shunts, not seen since the days of Jimbo's surgical Scaleauto slicing tragedy... Looking forward to next 1!

    • Modern F1 class Thoughts have recently been exchanged at the last race about the modern F1 class. Many intersting points were made. I bought a Scalex modern F1 last Thursday night. It hit the floor twice on Saturday, and is now broken. The reason I bought it was because my other car sucks and is in need of a total rebuild. Now I have two Scalex cars in need of major repairs. I looked at Electric Dreams to see what a new Scalex car retails for. The average is $100 in US funds. There's an one ugly one in the bunch for $65 US. Many are as high as $129 to $149 just for an ordinary F1 car. Here's the car I bought last Thursday. It's available at Electric Dreams for $129 US funds.   This car below is also $129 in US funds.   While on the same site, I checked out Policar modern F1's. They start at $54.95 US for a generic coloured car.   A fully decorated car like the one below goes as high as $64.95 USD. Not all that expensive. Instead of changing everything at once and pushing everyone into totally changing cars for this class. Can we add the Policar brand to the modern F1 class? If the Policar F1 is a lot cheaper, readily available, and a slightly better platform. Everyone should have no trouble phasing out the Scalex cars on their own over time. If someone is fully dedicated to their Scalex car, and talented at tuning them. Why not keep them going too? Just some food for thought since there were a few broken F1 cars last Saturday. I'm not looking forward to fixing either of my Scalex F1's. Ken

    • 2023 R32 Summer Break Gents, With the spectacular weather comes cottaging, family vacations, BBQs, sailing and many other outdoor weekend commitments so R32 will take a well deserved summer break until September. The fall schedule for both R32 and S32 is now online so check for classes and dates. Hopefully this will give everyone ample opportunity to get any unfinished projects completed. Please note that the R32 race at MVL originally planned for this Saturday is unfortunately cancelled due to insufficient registration (3). My sincerest apologies to GI and KensRedZed but at least everyone still has a chance to make alternate plans. Enjoy the break and I'll hopefully see everyone in September!

    • R32 Classes for 2023 Gents, I know many of you have been overwhelmed with new classes in every group that races in southern Ontario. R32 is no exception but rest assured that our R32 classes are now fixed for the balance of 2023. Recently we've added several classes as a fifth experimental race. We've also included them in our Class Criteria subforum for reference going forward. At this point R32 has 23 classes in total. You'll find them all within our Class Criteria subforum. Some of the 'new' R32 classes are not new at all. The original Sportscar (SP) [and later Sportscar Plus (SP+)] class[es] which included any sportscar raced between 1950 and 1969 are now divided into four distinct classes: 50SP - 1950's Endurance Sportscar 60SP - 1960's Endurance Sportscar USSP - 1960-1965 SCCA & USRRC North American Sportscar USSP+ - 1960-1965 SCCA & USRRC North American Sportscar Plus Any host can combine these if they wish, such as 50SP and 60SP as Porsche911 did last visit to Spa Lyons. Trans Am Plus (TA+), Boulevard Cruisers (BC) and Indy Roadster (IR) have been on our radar for many years. You can find several threads for each of these classes started years ago in our forums area. Simply use the search scratch32 website feature at the bottom of any page to find helpful examples of discussions, builds and tests posted by many of you which have proved very beneficial in getting these classes up and running. Unlimited Open (U) while a new class is not really anything requiring a new build or anything special since everyone racing with R32 will already have more than suitable models that have no class to race under. Models previously raced in the former Classic Prototype series (CP) are all great candidates as are other RTR models such as the Mosler. Well, there you have it. Going forward R32 will add a fifth race to every race morning and these new classes will feature equally within our schedule for the balance of 2023. I'll remind you that the KRZ chassis works very well for both the boulevard cruisers and indy roadsters (among many others). Contact Kensredzed to order one if you don't have a car already. In addition to our usual R32 rotation we will have S32 special events including American Thunder, La Carrera Panamericana, Ringwood, Coppa D'oro, Targa Florio, Player's 200 and the Internationale Meisterschaft for those hankering to scratchbuild even more! Now get building!!!

    • Hot Rod sub classes From online, email and in person discussions over the past several years it should now be safe to say that the overall class of Hot Rods (HR) breaks down more precisely into the following sub classes: Street Rods (SR) - (aka Hot Rod) - Any modified or customized car or truck model from 1948 or earlier with or without fenders in paint or in primer; Rat Rods (RR) - Any custom car or truck model with a deliberately worn-down, unfinished appearance, typically lacking paint, showing rust, and made from cheap or cast-off parts; Street Machines (SM) - Any modified or customized car or truck model from 1949 or later with fenders in paint or in primer; and Gassers (GS) - A vintage drag car that was popularized in the '50s and '60s (up to 1968) that ran on gasoline and used a straight axle front suspension which gave the model a very high front end stance. Most gassers also sported Halibrand wheels, no front bumper, and had a front mounted Moon tank. The gasser form was dictated by function and most builders looked to eliminate as much weight as possible. Having their exhaust pipes exit through the front fender to shorten the length of exhaust tubing is another common characteristic of gassers. Builders used 1930s through 1950s production coupes or sedans to create these highly modified racing vehicles, including (but not limited to) the following: 1933 Willys Model 77 Coupe; 1940 Willys; 1941 Willys Americar; 1948 Anglia; 1949 Chevy Fleetline or Styleline; 1951 Henry J; 1955 Ford T-Bird; 1955 Chevy Nomad; 1955 Chevy; 1957 Corvette. I believe the first three sub classes are easily covered by the current Hot Rod (HR) class criteria. Gassers are another story never meant to be raced around corners. To encourage realism in Gasser models rather than institute some technical requirement (such as a minimum front axle height) a form of bracket (or minimum lap time) [if they are raced] may be a better solution. A minimum weight limit might also be incorporated to help offset the performance disadvantage. Thank you to everyone for their comments and especially to Belleville Kevin for bringing some much needed clarity to this otherwise vague class.

    • Trans Am Plus (TA+) – More Restrictions Needed? Regarding our proposed TA+ criteria are there any additional restrictions that anyone wishes to suggest? So far we have: Eligible Models: Any hard body model that raced in the Trans Am series between 1966 and 1973 regardless of class. Motor: Any Gearing: Any Chassis: Any  Tires: Rear – Any size DArt Club Series Urethane Tire Front – ‘Stock’ or any size DArt Club Series Urethane Tire NOTE that anything goes but for years raced, hard bodies & tires... ...of course the usual requirements must be met as with any class whether stock or open (ie. body, wheels and livery must look period correct, wheels/tires cannot exceed the width of fenders, etc.)

    • Nova Ridge Saturday October 15, 2022 Art Thanks again for hosting another day of racing at this fabulous venue.  Looking forward to the next one.   See attached the photo of the guide wire that just snapped off my Stratos G5 car.  This has always been an issue with these cars when using the stock set up with set screws.  Now I have a reason to swap the set screws with brass eyelets.

    • 2021 Outside Track Optimism Despite the fact that our regional governments were recently ambushed and are scrambling with no coherent plan to immunize, our Ontario government passed the buck while deferring to regional medical officers in their ivory towers, and our fearless entitled drama queen Justin spouts more bullshit while ensuring he stands by our country last in G7 and worse than 40th in global vaccines to date I hope - I sincerely hope - we'll be safe by later this year. Given our government's track record now I don't believe I'll receive a vaccine until next winter. I hope the rest of you remain more optimistic - at least for your own sanity... as such... An outdoor track may be the only place we might race safely later this year/fall. Help me with your suggestions as far as how many lanes, how long, how easily transported - I guess I'm asking how many of you might participate on a strictly outdoor venue/track later this summer and fall. If proxy participation is anything to go by I am happy not to waste my time - but again I must ask.

    • HOW WE TALLY FINAL RACE RESULTS For most members, building is a work in progress and it takes time to built up a full inventory of cars to race at every event, especially with this group which has over twenty classes and counting.  Members must be encouraged to build as much as possible and allowed to race their builds as much as possible.  Having fun should always be the main driver that is given greatest weight by all. I realize this may be a controversial issue but it is not intended to be..., I am raising it only from the point of view of fairness.  Fairness is the central theme that we base all our rules on and is also the main point considered in any type of racing.  I ask that all members put on your stewards hat and consider this topic without any bias.  Assume that you are the adjudicating panel of a racing body,  your mandate is to decide what is the fair and proper course of action.  I would hope that whatever is decided by the group be applied to future events and will not have any bearing on past events. Currently, all members race the cars that they have built and registered for any particular event.  If a member has built only one car, and there are four separate races held at one event, then that member may race their only model in all four races as a separate entrant.  At present, that members best result from all four separate races with the same car will be awarded, against all the other members that have not had an opportunity to race the same car repeatedly, in multiple races.  The final result awarded to all other members is the result they achieved in only one race-their first and only race with that car. 1) Is the current award method fair to all? 2) Should we continue to award a racer on this basis or would it be more fair for each individual car to be permitted to race as many races as there are at any one event but the result awarded that car should be the result achieved from only the first race that car raced?  In other words, after the first race, the member will be allowed to race their car as often as they want in the remaining races but in terms of keeping score, that car will only be considered as a place holder after its first race, it's subsequent race result will not count in the final tally. I look forward to an open discussion on this topic.

    • 2.4h Group C Endurance Race In keeping with both past tradition and our scratch building focus this fall we will incorporate another full day event for a 2.4h Group C 'enduro'. Obviously this will involve either a scratch built chassis OR body (or both) and is not limited to stock components (any components may be used). A marked hand out tire will be provided to those that pre-register before the deadline. Multiple entries will also be encouraged. Stay tuned for more details. Thoughts, comments and suggestions are encouraged at this early stage.
