Oh, and elected to go with a ‘flat finish'(thought more period appropriate) than typical semi-gloss, like it, though I think the ‘Red Nose’ and wheels popped more before…Will try semi the next 1. I have 2 more, another D’art kit and the original…

in reply to: Aston Ulster PGP+ entry #32676

@ JMS, yes the ‘vintage finish’ was complimented by the ‘track jettison’….. 5/6 laps, beautiful, smooth, handled great, then WAMMO, NO Brakes at the end of the long straight(fudged braids me thinks)…. BOOM, hit the floor, 1 headlight casualty, an Arm amputation, and a wonky rear post…Fortunately, with a 12 year old Scotch(for the surgeon), the arm was re-attached(though not quite as dexterous as previously), both headlights then became ‘lowered’, and the body post fixed by the Lyon garagistas… But yes, some wash and slight ‘bluing’ of the pipes gives it a decent effect, certainly not concours, but I’m happy with the 3/30 effect, 3 feet and 30MPH, looks good. :>) and I’m happy with the way it runs.

Hey MiA, from what I could glean(assuming the matchbox model WAS based on the real car), appears raced in the Targa Abruzza/Abruzzi 1935, independent entry, but no pics… And who knew(other than MiA), that may were raced in what I’d call ‘French Bleu’ or ‘Ferrari Rosso’…

Gents, hope all are well! I will not be attending and as such I believe I am happy with the rules as they currently are, however, Racer68’s suggestion is not unreasonable, though I’m not sure that perhaps there would be an advantage in shodding HR’s with wider wheels/tires?? I think that within reason, as long as the appearance is period/genre correct, that would be fine, but having said that, we know that in years past there have been several members that abide by the Smokey Yunnick ethos… And perhaps this is NOT the correct forum to address return to racing, policy and practice, so MODS please feel free to move, but as a host, I’m interested in what members think. I will entertain hosting racing in the fall, dependent on where we are health wise in the battle, but  I will require a ‘Vaccine Passport’ to allow guests to race at Spa.

Hmmm, what is the bit of sage wisdom we’ve all heard????? “More $$$$$ than Brains”…. Let’s face it, ALL of these ‘gentlemen’ have copious CA$H to allow them to really play play the sport of Kings, NO, Not POLO(though they likely indulge as well)!! LOL… That being said, surely an unused part of a trust fund, Tech takeover, or best of all, perhaps Marrying a rich debutante will allow them to continue this pursuit, but I digress…. Just thoroughly enjoyed the 70’s F1 series of races, and WOW, great battles, particularly the Jean Alesi Ferrari 312 and Marco Werner Lotus 78 tete a tete, encroyable!! This, and Goodwood are now are on my bucket list!! Thanks for sharing Bill!!

in reply to: 3D printed Indy Roadster chassis #18336

Very very COOL Steve, and the ‘variable length’ would I guess make the chassis more viable for other cars/classes as well, multi functional!! :good:

Question though, and I’m sure others waaay more knowledgeable than I can opine… Do you think that your initials, the ‘open/cut out’ part of the chassis may compromise the structural integrity? Perhaps ‘etching’ them, or a raised low profile may work better? Regardless, I’m sure those here may be lining up soon, if you intend to produce/sell?

    Stay well!

in reply to: Simple Spray Booth #17845

Hi Steve, no worries, I McGyvered’ a solution, an exterior plastic Dryer exhaust vent with flaps removed, and caulking to seal where there were a few wee gaps. It’s finished, have not yet put to Litmus test(sprayed anything inside), but have run fan and appears to blow well(I said PARDON!) I did go with this 1 “AC Infinity AXIAL S1238, 120mm”, 3 speed 3 on the tree.. :>)

    Pictures pending, results to follow.

in reply to: DArt McLaren M1B #17835

Thank you KRZ for the pictorial essay and detail, greatly appreciated, and very helpful! However, as I’m about to embark on my 1st KRZ build, curious as to how you fix/glue the bushings securely into place for finished product? I know that with accurate spacer configuration, the likelihood of bushing dislodging should in theory be minimal at most, but, do you simply apply a small bead of ‘Super glue’ or Epoxy on bushing flange, then insert, or on chassis opening for bushings, both?

What’s the secret sauce? I know you’re trying to make your assembly idiot-proof, and I don’t want to prove you wrong! LMAO.

    Thanks again.

Hi lads, getting close to completion, however, some design concerns are leading to McGuyveresque adjustments…Final stage is to install fan to ‘booth’, and 1 would have thought that a fan allegedly designed to ‘Aid air flow in roofs/attics’ would have coupled easily to a 4″ duct/exhaust fitting, but Enhhhhh WRONGO, and there is no ‘flange’ on the fan housing(what to bolt to??)! My ‘design was to put the fan on exterior/back of box, allowing for a little more ‘depth’ in the box, but regardless, curious how Steve, you clamped the  hose on to back of fan, not clear in picture? I purchased  a ‘dryer vent’ piece, that you place on exterior of house, and the fan is just a ‘CH'(Carpentry term) to fit within housing of bracket, but think I should be able to dremel out a wee bit so it’ll fit in housing, then as you did, bolt both to box. Not sure if better though to put as you did, ‘fan in the box’, or back, as I think when bolted in, will make no difference on airtightness(and will seal with silicone as well).  I also added a few things, hopefully enhancements, cut a rectangular hole in ‘top’ of box which I will cover with a clear piece of plastic(like on gift card boxes), think of it like a tearaway on a visor, and light will be placed above it. Also added a small ‘turntable’ on base where body’s will be placed on mount to paint. Hope my ramblings make sense, and will try and load a few pics to illustrate.

Trying to finish this weekend, Thoughts/suggestions welcomed.

Hi gents and thank you, very helpful Steve(And Bill) the fan I’ve looked at is this:

GDSTIME AXIAL Fan 12038, 110V 120V AC 120mm Fan, Ventilation Exhaust Projects Cooling Fan

Would appreciate if you’d peruse, give the benediction if worthy?

I also did look at what you’d suggest” GDSTIME Big Airflow Dual 2 * 120mm Fans DC 12V Powered Fan with AC 110V – 240V Speed Contro” for your upgrade, just not sure how I’d ‘funnel’ into exhaust, guess it would have to be a ‘Dualie’ :>)

And I also would plan on partial disassemble for storage when not creating a Masterpiece (LOL)

Hey Ken, some of those HO’s look VERY familiar…Dini, 917/10, 2 917’s(especially the Green 1, can’t believe I sold it!!), McLaren body, a few others…

Very sorry to hear of John’s passing, and my deepest sympathy to Valerie. Fellow Porschephile, he loved his cars! I brought him a few ‘Bobby figures’ for his track opening, they were in need of new paint, but he was very happy and grateful for my ‘track warming’ gift. Over the years, John purchased some cars from me, and always had the same refrain; “Well, I don’t really need it but…”

Hello fellow enthusiasts, and Happy New Year! Hard to believe almost 2 1/2 years since I’d thanked Art for providing this service. I was unable to provide “the list” of cars due to formatting/site restrictions, but believe I did mail the group en masse. Having said that, I’ve come to the realization that with the dozen D’Art kits, as many models, and numerous other “cars in the Box” which I intended to build, and nevermind many that require repair, I’ll never have time to get to many cars that I’ve acquired over the last ten years, so….Stay tuned here; I’m going to photo/post several cars, ALL BNIB, which will be available for curbside pickup, possible meet up, or utilize the intrepid Canada Post service(at cost). To incentivize I’ll offer a discount of $5 from total purchase of 2 Cars, $10 for 3, $15 for 4.  AS many have been sitting for years, I’ve obviously been in no rush to sell, so please, no ‘low ball’ offers. As all that have purchased previously from me know, my pricing is fair. Please respond directly to the site if interested in claiming, and then we can speak via e-mail or phone. Thanks, and stay well!

Good question Ken, though I suspect the Porsche crew would work for Borscht, the Chevy guys, Union scale, DOH!!! Now don’t reign down on me all Union brethren, just an attempt at humour in these trying times…Funny though, was just reading about Chevy ‘Crate engine’ initiative(sounds amazing), apparently you can buy a small block with approx 300+ HP for around $5K, and not to say that Porsche could match that fiscally, but Porschephiles would love to have a new 3.2 Air cooled at 3 times the price apparently!! That is 1 Baaaad lookin’ MoFO, 35K, McCrazy, but hey, whadowino? 🙂 As you suggested, I suspect she’s a little light, but 1 of your custom brass plates will do the trick no doubt. Best of luck with experiment :yahoo: Feel free to bring her to Spa for some shakedown laps post our racing next time.

Hmmm, very odd…perhaps ‘new update’, or just ‘User error’ (me) but I don’t see Kens commentary which I received via e-mail in this forum????

The Mini falls into the minimum requirements of the rules. There is no mention of flairs in the rules for Sportscar. The car is 54mm at it’s widest point. That’s 3mm under the regulation.

I don’t try and bend, or break the rules. I try and follow them to the letter.

If I have broken any rules by making this Mini. Please state what I did wrong so others and myself can learn from my mistake? I would like to learn how to avoid these pitfalls in the future. I’ve put too much time into this Mini only to find out it was a mistake from the start. I don’t want to do that again. I would like others to openly see my mistake so they can avoid it too. I’ll glady take the fall for my mistakes to help others.

I now regret making this car.

    nor Art’s reply”

To clarify – I have no objection based on the flares per se. But keep in mind that at some point differences made to any body style from the originals that raced in any era may take a model outside the rules. Just because it can be done or is made by someone else and can be bought doesn’t automatically keep it class eligible. Keep that in mind.

This however is a custom built Targa car which closely matches the original as raced in ’72 and clearly meets our Targa SP rules. Whether one believes it also matches models that raced up to ’70 (R32 SP) or up to ’65 (S32 SP) is between the builder and the court of popular opinion.

So, court of opinion in session…I do think it’s a great looking little car, and curious to see how it runs, however, as the builder stated: “I found a Morris Mini Cooper in the 1972 Targa Florio. So, I don’t feel that it would be eligible for SP, as the rules clearly state “Any 50’s or 60’s era sportscar (production or prototype)that competed in past endurance races. NOTE: ‘endurance’ should be interpreted to mean 24hr, 12hr, 6hr, 1000k  and to allow cars up to 72(or later), I don’t want to open that floodgate. In prior iterations of this group there was always a member or 2 that knowingly transgressed the rules, pushed and exceeded the limits, without asking the group to review, and no, it is NOT always “better to ask for forgiveness than permission” I know that Ken did not do this intentionally, but again, rules are 50’s 60’s, which I like, I just don’t think the look of the field would be that great(as it now is), by allowing for example, 55/57 Vettes alongside a big ass/fendered 79 Vette(though I do like their look) but, if the group wants to allow 70’s era too(hopefully NOT then creeping into the 80’s), then we should enjoy or democratic freedoms, and put to a vote.

Just my 2 devalued Canadian cents worth.

Very nice work, all look magnificent! Now where’s the Porsche decal on that Bad Mutha 550, she looks fast and low, sorry though, I don’t have any 1/32 dice to hang on her! Kidding :good: :good: :good:  Your builds keep progressing, both performance and aesthetically, setting the bar too high!!

Ser Guht meine herren! I may have a small Porsche decal you could apply to the bonnet if you’d like, let me know, I’ll try to unearth…

Only suggestion to finish off this beauty would be a fine ‘mesh’ in the valance/front grill, Dollar store sieve or similar type screen will yield a lot of pieces.

    Great job, nice details!
