Sweet! What number are you putting on your SSK? Just so I don’t use the same one.
Nice job so far Ken!
Nice!
September 24, 2018 at 10:13 am in reply to: Drilling holes in aluminum for 3/16" single flange bearings #8777Thanks for elaborating on your process Ken. I’ve wanted to make chassis this way for 24th scale cars for years and never gotten around to it.
K&B made an adjustable chassis in the 60’s similar to this with 2 slightly different size aluminum channel pieces.
Nice job Ken!
Mine is also an old breadbox.
August 2, 2018 at 4:31 pm in reply to: 1934 Aston Martin Ulster kit for the Pre-War GP series in S32 #8136Looks great so far Thanks for posting the progress!
Both would make great builds!
Good luck
July 19, 2018 at 1:38 pm in reply to: Ford V8 Special – #32 – Ireneu Correa – 1935 Rio Grand Prix #7953I finally got round to changing out the motor on the Bugatti also altered the pinion from 10 to 9 so we’ll see if there is much performance difference.
Can’t wait to test it out again
July 14, 2018 at 7:20 pm in reply to: Ford V8 Special – #32 – Ireneu Correa – 1935 Rio Grand Prix #7628Great build! I wonder if adding the second spare will make handling better or worse?
Watched a bit of Goodwood this evening and they had some interesting pre war oddities. It was streaming on youtube.
Great job on the Ford!
Lots of customization on that one.
Can’t wait to see it in person.
June 25, 2018 at 10:43 am in reply to: 1934 Aston Martin Ulster kit for the Pre-War GP series in S32 #7284Looks like it will make another nice addition!
Rims I used were cast by John kit of Studio64.
I’m not sure if he is doing any more but will ask next time I see him.
Some video footage of the F5000s

Grand Marshall was non other than Brian Redman!
June 18, 2018 at 11:47 am in reply to: 1934 Aston Martin Ulster kit for the Pre-War GP series in S32 #7248Great looking kit Felix! Hope to see it on the track at some point.
I have a couple of those I’m working on as well.
Welcome to the site!
Entry list:
So far 11 F5000 cars and a few other interesting cars I’ve never seen.
A nice Shelby Cobra for example.
It was a great catch. He must have played Aussie rules.
Great article! I didn’t realize Brazilian racing history went back that far
Wow That’s crazy!
Wiki says …….. Mille Miglia.
The film was shot at Pinewood Studios in London with location work in Italy, including footage of the Mille Miglia, and scenes at Lake Como. It was based on an original screenplay by Robert Estridge.
The movie features the Lotus Mark 10 Aston Martin.[4] John Wyer and Roy Salvadori worked on the film as advisers. “Steel handled the car with surprising ease—and it isn’t an easy thing to drive,” said Wyer.
Anthony Steel married Anita Ekberg during the making of the film.
Now I have to track down the whole movie to watch.
Bugatti wheel width is 1.77 inches or 45 mm
Ride height 5mm
Thanks guys
I look forward to seeing the Bentley completed MIA. I have several of the Scalextric version and I think an Airfix or Matchbox kit as well that could be built.
The Bugatti 35B was originally raced ~1926-1930
Matchbox also made a couple of kits that would fit the same era.
An Aston Martin Ulster ~1936-1940:
And a Mercedes SSKL~1928-1932:
Food for thought…
I’ll get back to you with measurements a little later.
Looks Great Dave!
Hey Dave
Not sure if you know or not but if you insert the images using the little rectangular icon that looks like a mountain with a sun at the top of the text box rather than attaching them using the choose file option they actually show up in the body of your post.
Cheers
Bill
looks pretty useful!
I’ve seen other pics of them but not this particular pic.
/I can see how the guide would present a problem. Makes a nice piece of trackside decoration thoug.
It would be nice if he reissued them
Finally got to watch the whole thing. Nice Mosport layout at 8 mins.
I wonder if Oscar Kovaleski of Autoworld set it up?
I thought you’d like that!
It looks like a GM cab with a custom box. I have an Eldon? 1/32 pickup I may try to convert but it may be a Ford.
Here’s a pic of it in modern times. Now owned by Bruce Canepa.
MIA I f you park your car on the trailer you’re pretty much guaranteed 2nd place LOL!
As the dust settles Jody legs it for inside of turn 2 and the pits/paddock beyond.
That’s his shadow in the upper left..not Jackie Oliver’s. Yuk yuk yuk
Jody made the crossing safely you’ll be happy to see.
After the race the car is recovered…note the mechanic? placing the blown tire and rim on the Vasek Polak Porsche slant bed hauler. Would make a great addition as trackside vehicle in 1/32 scale … anyone?
Reverse angle from down on the track
Hey you kids get out of that jello tree! Is that KK in the background wearing the Canadian flag weed T?
If you haven’t looked it up already … driver of the #15 car is William Wonder. I’ll have to do some research on him as I had never heard of him til now.
The Sheckter spin….race reports I have read say he blew a tire (better than a seal I guess) which the pictures seem to support.
Left rear is definitely deflated here:
Headed for the armco. Some damage to the front unless he impacted and spun around?
Seems to straighten it out from the spin
Comes to rest in a cloud of dust. Wish our marshals were this quick ;^)
Some mid race beauty shots…
The Man! Mark Donohue’s 917/30’s nose is lifted at an awkward angle indicating some sort of incident.. or perhaps an unfair advantage? I think not.
Pete Sherman Mclaren M8F
Sheckter #0 Damon Hill wasn’t first to use #0 on a car
I Wonder who’s driving this McLaren M8C?
Wow! that looks splendid!
Any chance you could cast it in resin?
Yup he was a class act!
If you ever see the Mark Donohue book The Unfair Advantage read it. It talks a lot about the development of this car and many others.
December 28, 2017 at 2:30 pm in reply to: Filler – Caution Using Plastic Cement & Styrene Mixture… #5209I’ve never used JB weld as a filler but will give it a try.
I usually reserve it for strong screw post re-enforcement and unseen underbody repairs etc.
Great info! thanks for elaborating.
December 19, 2017 at 11:26 am in reply to: Filler – Caution Using Plastic Cement & Styrene Mixture… #5177I’ve used this technique in the past with varying results. Drying times are very long though. Almost prohibitively long.
The only case where I would use this method is on a plastic model where the model will be unpainted to match the colour of the plastic as closely as possible.
I prefer filling with plastic styrene panels or plastic dowels/sprue glued with super glue and sanded if I’m planning on painting the model anyway. (most cases)
That is a beautiful Alfa MIA but not the one I was thinking of.
Nor is the Merc the version I was thinking of which was done by Carrera.
Here is a link to the Alfa:
http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/alfa-romeo-history/145360-streamliner-6c-2300-a.html
The Recordwagon looks spectacular!
This is the Merc Streamliner I was thinking of:
No doubt it uses the same construction technique.
ok I’ll take a guess
Tubular spaceframe.
Looks like a Merc or Auto Union streamliner land speed record car.
It must be an Alfa because I know you.
Benefits – light weight drawbacks – fragile and flexible
November 17, 2017 at 2:43 pm in reply to: The Second Lost Generation from Italy – Baghetti, Bandini, Scarfiotti, Giunti #4862I have a 24th scale P57 with Bandini’s name on it…well not yet literally but it will be.
November 17, 2017 at 11:58 am in reply to: Restoring Wood Finishes – Circa 1850 Lemon Oil Furniture Treatment #4861I used this on some speaker cabinets to removeblend water marks from plants with good results.
I think he was taking it easy the first few turns to let the guys past then pass them on the back stretch to make it more interesting.

If I remember correctly I have never been able to upload attachments only insert images.
I usually forget about this option until I’ve tried uploading a few times.

2 BRMs Moss Corner
Some black and white photos my friend John took at the event.
I’ve always been curious what the teams used for haulers back in those days on fly away races.
Do you remember if they brought their transporters etc or rented something when they got here?
Maybe a little of both ?
Great stuff MiA
More pics here:

Great shots Michael!
That Ferrari was leading the train for a long time just like Gilles in Spain back in the day.
Change of plan will be camping on the infield near the hump
GV’s 312 T4 is confirmed as well so worth going for sure!
I must have missed you Michael I was there on the Wed night but got there just as it started.
