Thank you! Hard for me to tell the players without a program.

Are the ScaleAuto cars on a par with NSR’s?

Is it ScaleAuto that Chris is talking about or someone else? Regardless it is interesting insight and a great diversion from prominent media issues of the day.

Too bad, but a great attempt Ken. Thanks for trying. I’m doing my 1st 246 and there will probably be at least one (of three) in that configuration. I’m sure there will be more.

The good thing about this is that you end up with  a body and motor that can then be used for a scratch build!! B-)

I have a few boxes of these that will attest to just how little I like taking these things apart and how unsuccessful I have been at trying to get them back together. Thanks for posting this. Hopefully it will help??

Steve. Great to see what can be done with a little ingenuity!! I have been looking for something similar to your chop saw attachment ever since I discovered that square cuts were much easier to work with than my freestyle ones!!

Would you consider making one for me?? If so let me know how much and we can work out the details.

Might not be much fun to marshal some spots on that layout!!

Neat idea and as an added bonus it might leave a nice thin layer of sticky on the track for added traction!!

Thanks for the heads up Gary. Given all that is included that price seems quite reasonable. I have watched this 1:1 car race many times, both as a child and more recently at Vintage races. I’m sure I have tons of pictures of it. It is a fascinating car both from a design standpoint and an historical one. Perhaps more on that later.

From Mosport, Players 200 June 1961. Just after the start before they drop down into turn 1 I think. Heimrath is the third Porsche I believe, possibly in the same livery as Bill’s car. The last car in the line is a Sadler I think. Very interesting car Canadian car.

Hopefully a few more to come.

Can’t imagine why anyone would think that the current levels of government are incompetent or trying to pass off responsibility?? There must be full time departments whose sole purpose is to come up with plausible ‘spin’ that strives to keep ‘us’ happy and provide ‘them’ with plausible deniability!! Perhaps we’ll all forget before the next elections roll around?? 😥

I’m as anxious as anyone for things to return to some sort of ‘new normal’, but since the events required for this to happen are well beyond my sphere of influence I’ll probably just stay hunkered down until myself and a vast majority of the population have been inoculated. It’s been over a year now and hopefully it will happen within the next year.

I’ve missed the last two proxies because, among other reasons, I had hoped to have new cars built for them (still have two on the go  ) so hopefully for any next ones I’ll just resort to running what is already done (although new cars remain a stretch goal).

As for an outdoor track, it’s an interesting idea -and I applaud anything that might allow us to race again- but even if time, space and energy were to make one a reality it would probably require closer contact than might be prudent until the virus episode has run it’s course. So, I hope that it’s not too long before we can safely get back together again on the tracks we already enjoy. :good:

We used to use something like this when doing any machining operations with aluminum. Applied directly to the tool straight from the tube it seemed to reduce chatter and material build on the face of the machining tool. Much better than machining dry and much less messy and more convenient than a cutting fluid. It was about $20 a tube as best I recall. Available at most industrial supply shops. If you haven’t used it, it might be worth a try.

I might have already posted these once upon a time, but… just for fun: these were taken a Mosport I think about 1967 when GM had the Sharks and Monza on tour. As I recall the one with the clear bubble top and the side pipes was the original Mako Shark, the closed one the Mako Shark 2 and the Monza was a Corvair design study. It shows a lot of Corvette influence.

That will make one spectacular model with the colour gradiation depicting a dark shark top fading to light shark bottom will be fascinating to apply. B-)

Lane spacing appears to be quite tight as well. IMHO the tracks we run on are easily this ones equal, better in pretty much every way. We are certainly spoiled!! Thanks everyone concerned!! :rose:

However at 18:37 there is a glimpse of what might be this car  at the start of the 1937 Rio Grand Prix amidst a field of other marques. An excellent video regardless.

It is in an Auto Union video. If I do, the next step will be to see If I can get it into this thread??

Bravo!! :good: As the turbine was a free-running, constant-speed unit running at 35-40,000rpm an NSR Shark at 46k RPM & 290 g-cm Torque would seem a perfect choice!!  That will make for some weapon and a true test for his chassis!!

As the highest placed all-British entry it was also the recipient of that year’s Motor Trophy.

I think that in the end one just does the best one can with the body you have to work with. The #’s probably have to serve as a guideline at best. Scale bodies certainly are not always to correct scale  and when the original full scale cars were being designed or the scale models were being molded the designers might not have taken into consideration all the issues with converting them into a functional slot car.

Excellent work at fitting it all in! Car looks great in off white.

In the case of the Auto Union Type C:

                                                                                                          https://www.ultimatecarpage.com/spec/872/Auto-Union-Type-C.html

making for a 32nd scale wheelbase of 90.875 mm. or so which is probably close enough without trying to scale drawings.

Scale track f/r was a very narrow looking 42.875 mm

Between the two sites one should be able to answer most dimensional questions.

It’s better but will need taller tires and more gear work. Still feels a bit slow and draggy. One thing at a time to see what a difference each change makes. looks excellent on the track though

I could find nothing that said this was ever made as a dual kit that came as a static model or with  a possible slot car intention. Perhaps there was some confusion by the seller or I just couldn’t find it listed. Are there mounting posts in the upper body that match the slot chassis?? Or perhaps you also got a spare vintage chassis and motor, an even better deal!! With beautiful inserts I might add!!

Regardless, these are really, really rare so it will be wonderful to see your build!

The 1965 version of the car had 2 air intakes at the base of the rear roof pillar that are visible in some of the videos below.

Forget which one??

Possibly available at one of the hobby stores.

Did the axle version provide too much lateral movement, or what was the issue with it? I used a tube in one of my pre-war cars and am hoping to use something similar in the 550 build rather than the screw mounts. B-)

For the 1934 season rules were changed to the 750kg. formula and the cars frames were drilled for lightness and the engines stroked to achieve 3.3L. They were still a bit heavy (749.5kg.) so often they would be pushed to scrutineering minus their magneto just to make weight. B-)

They raced in many liveries and were the epitome of Bugatti GP cars. They make an unbelievably beautiful noise (if you like that sort of thing!!)

Slightly larger in appearance than the Broolklands screens that many marques used. Even came with a windshield wiper for the driver.

If you discover/invent a source for the bubble headlight covers seen here,  the 1750 will need 3.

A bit more research indicates that the 1750 I’m doing did in fact race with the full 1 pc. windscreen.

Note the bottom of the running boards appear slightly above the axle centreline.

You can certainly see the lineage between the 1750 and the 2300.

And don’t worry, a ‘conventional’ build will have more than it’s own fair share of challenges!!

Hopefully I’ll get the International done (to a much less ambitious level no doubt) to keep the Ulster company on the track.

It was the basis for some of the most beautiful auto’s ever produced! IMHO.  And the noise from that blown straight eight ……

The one I’m doing is the original Alfa red, which is really more of a maroon, #84 winner of the 1930 Mille Miglia, driven by Tazio Nuvolari & Giambattista Guidotti. B-)

Chassis is going to be fascinating and hopefully you can manage to complete it without losing too much of the underpinnings of the original model.

Regardless, great job on not only the car and chassis but an especially good job on Mr. Correa himself!

Two of my favourite marques as others will attest! The 8C Alfa went on to spawn a whole series of different body styles, including some of the most beautiful road going automobiles ever produced!!!

Having run the Blower Bentley on track yesterday I can attest that higher/ narrower/longer handles remarkably well.  With a very slow motor of about 13K and Art’s wheels and tires it’s about 20% slower than our our sports cars, (seems to be a perfectly appropriate speed), just sits there on rails, didn’t seem to have any tendency to want to tip or slide and looks perfectly dignified in the process. That Alfa will make a marvelous companion. What colour are you going to do it in??
